If you are fairly new to learning about hair weaves, or hair extensions, or lace wigs, then no doubt you have quickly notice the term Remy, Remy Hair, or
Remy hair weave, being used very frequently. You quickly get the definite impression that a lot of people want it. But what exactly is it?
Remy is more of a term. Remy is more of a method. Remy is more of a process. Remy is more about the procedure used to extract the hair from the human donor, than it is about the kind of hair.
In other words… just using the term Remy does not automatically mean it is Indian hair, or African hair, or European hair, or Oriental hair, etc. etc.
Remy hair is real human hair that has been extracted and collected from a hair donor in such a way that the cuticles are not stripped and remain aligned in one direction. Extreme care is taken to strictly organized cuticles, roots, follicles, etc. in one direction and the tip to the opposite end.
Most human hair that is sold in the wig, or hair weave, industry goes through a cuticle stripping process called an acid bath. After the acid bath a silicone is placed over the cuticles to give the hair a shine, and a smooth, appearance. However the silicone eventually wears off when you maintain your wig by normal washing, processing, styling, etc. Once the silicon is gone the cuticles are disturbed and return to an unruly state. This makes the hair very susceptible to matting, tangling, frizzing, losing it’s luster, losing it’s shine, etc
Real Remy hair means the cuticles has not been stripped, the hair has not been placed in acid, and it’s been minimally processed.
Remy hair weave will resist matting, tangling, and maintains it’s luster for a much longer period of time. Therefore your Remy hair weave will last much longer, and require less effort to keep it looking beautiful. This is because all the cuticles are aligned and intact without the use of any silicone. Every strand of the hair is biologically keratin skin cells organized in layers overlapping one another.
This why Remy is considered superior. And this is why you are seeing the word Remy all over the internet.
Finding the best high quality Remy hair weave is a very important step if you want an undetectable and natural look that is beautiful and will last a long time with out tangling or shedding.
So, you may have made the decision that you don’t want to go with a synthetic hair, and you want to get 100% Remy hair weave.
Well there is more to consider:
Now we know that Remy hair is considered the very best in human hair. But there are also quality ratings within the Remy category itself based on processing and length. The top three fit into the “virgin” category. Real virgin hair has not had any chemical treatment including, perms, dying, highlighting, etc. etc. In other words, 100% virgin Remy hair… is 100% human hair… that has been carefully extracted to keep the roots & cuticles in tact… and then minimally processed… to create the Remy hair weave
Non-virgin Remy hair usually has had some kind of color treatment. The ratings all depends on how much was done to it. However, any non-virgin Remy hair is still considered superior to all non Remy hair.
Also keep in mind, just like with other industries, there are some companies who are not completely honest with their use of the term Remy. The word Remy itself is often misused to lure those interested in quality human hair. Some hair that is being advertised as Remy is processed with harsh chemicals after being collected from mass hair collectors in China and other Asian countries. Only the finest of Remy hair is done by a single collector who extracts the hair directly from the donor being very careful not to damage the cuticle.
So If you want beautiful natural long lasting hair that does not tangling or have a lot of shedding, it is important to find the best quality virgin Remy hair to use for your Remy hair weave.
This should not be a issue if you stick with only reputable Remy hair weave, wigs, and hair extensions dealers like the companies recommended by on this website.
Types of Remy Hair Weave:
Indian Remy Hair Weave: Not to be confused with the America Indian, or Native American. Indian Remy comes from the women of India, or Pakistan. Indian Remy is the most popular and produced human lace wig hair. Indian Remy can come in a variety of colors and lengths. Since most Indian’s can have very long and very dark tresses.
Indian texture is so popular because it is versatile for a variety of different cultures. This means it is great for the many diversities of the African American female. It is thick. It’s naturally silky and straight, and soft & wavy all at the same time. Indian women tend to grow their hair very long so the process of collecting virgin Indian Remy hair from them is very easy.
Malaysian Remy Hair Weave: Malaysian Remy is quickly replacing yaky hair texture. Many African-American women have yaky or yaki lace wigs to resemble chemically treated African-American hair. As Remy hair is not processed, this posed a problem. While some companies stated they offered yaky with virgin cuticle hair that was unprocessed, this was usually untrue as most yaky is actually processed.
Malaysian hair is soft and silky. The hair color is more varied than Chinese hair but since it comes from the same region, it is comparable in price. Malaysian hair has a similar density to Indian hair but does not have the natural wave. Since it is so straight but thick, it easily replaces yaky texture hair.
Brazilian Remy Hair Weave: Brazilian Remy hair is fairly new but catching on fast. This texture is soft and rather thick like Indian hair but is more versatile in color choice. The hair has a softer wave and is slightly finer.
Many African-American lace wigs are being made with Brazilian Remy since those who want a straighter texture find it hard to use European Remy. The colors of virgin hair offered are typically dark brown, off black, light brown and medium blond shades.
Chinese Remy Hair Weave: Chinese Remy is very popular for use on stock lace wigs. The hair is straight in texture but very coarse. The naturally dark color of Chinese virgin Remy is great for anyone who wants very dark virgin cuticle hair.
There are some issues with Chinese Remy that comes out of China. The hair quality is good but some of the techniques used to extract the strands are not true Remy methods and can damage the hair cuticles. Since the hair is so coarse and can look unnatural on those with fine hair, Chinese Remy is often dipped in an acid bath to thin out and lighten. For those who want completely unprocessed hair, make sure to do your research on the lace wig supplier that your company of choice uses.
European Remy Hair Weave: European hair can be interpreted vary differently by many. We would consider it to be Caucasian females from Europe. This could be England, Scotland, Russia, France, Sweden, etc. But there are others who would consider anywhere across the Atlantic as European Remy. So you could go into a wig store and ask for European Remy and they will give you hair from China. Therefore if you are really specific about a certain part of world, you may be better off just naming the countries, or regions, to see if they have any hair from there. You should note that, in general, women from those countries England, Scotland, Russia, France, and so on, are not yet as widely open to having their hair cut and sold. Which means it’s a little more rare, therefore more expensive.
Regardless of where the hair comes from, the care that is taken when cutting it from the head of the donor and maintaining the cuticles intact is what makes the distinction between Remy hair and non Remy hair. It is generally believed that it is the highest quality hair a person can use for wigs, weaves and hair extensions, therefore, it is also the most expensive. It is considered by most to be well worth the price because it can be treated exactly the same as one’s own hair.
AS AN ALTERNATIVE
TO REMY HAIR WEAVE
Wigs have come a long way since the ones many of our mother’s use to plop on their heads. They are far more natural looking and easy to use then than they ever have been in the past. There are wigs which are made of 100% Remy hair. Much of this website has focused on a particular type of wig which are called lace wigs. Lace wigs are made with a thin sheer mesh fabric material attached. It is this mesh material that is referred to as the lace. When fitted and applied correctly the lace wig gives the appearance of the hair naturally growing out of your scalp.
This photo is a zoom camera view, and you still have to focus to see the lace exposed along the part.
The lace is trimmed right to the edge to form a natural hairline. Then it is secured in place by double sided adhesive tape, or an liquid adhesive skin bond which is the most popular method.
Lace wigs create such a natural looking appearance that they are considered superior to the traditional, regular, (non-lace), wigs that you simply put on and pull off. And that security is the significant difference that greatly helps one’s confidence while wearing it.
Lace wigs were originally created in the medical industry! It was created as a solution for people experiencing complete hair loss while going through cancer chemotherapy, or alopecia sufferers. Lace wigs were so successful and natural looking that they got high jacked by the fashion industry as a beauty accessory which is where you mostly hear about them now.
If a lace wig is fitted and applied correctly with the adhesive. It is set and fixed on you. It could last a couple of weeks or more before you are ready to remove the adhesive, and remove the wig.
Higher quality lace front wigs, and full lace wigs extremely natural looking. The Swiss or French lace creates a breathable cap that lessens itching and sweating. You might actually forget you are wearing it.
There is absolutely no question that a lace wig is far more convenient when it comes to the time involved. A hair weave, especially depending on the type of style like micro braid extensions, etc, can be very tedious and take hours. We mean five, six, seven hours or more depending of the experience and skill of the person doing the weave. By comparison even a full lace wig which is fitted and secured by adhesives completely around your entire head can be completed in less than one hour. This includes trimming the lace, prepping your real hair by combing, brushing, or braiding to get it as flat as possible underneath the wig, prepping your skin right at the edge of your hair line for the adhesive, and the actual fitting and styling of the wig. And it is much less than that if it’s only a lace front wig.
Then keep in mind, it’s not just putting the weave in. There’s also time involve taking them out. True it’s not nearly has long
because your not concerned about looking good when it’s finish. You mainly want to be careful not to cut your real hair when removing the stitching. But it can still be hours! However lace wigs by comparison is literally on minutes to apply the adhesive remover, let it sit and dissolve, take of the wig, and cleaning off any residue around your hair line the.
In fact… depending on that weave style that was put in… a girl can remove one lace wig, get fitted for another one, be done and gone, long before you get half of the weave removed.
This means that for a relatively reasonable cost, and some basic education, you can create a full head of hair in only a matter of minutes with lace wigs.
