Adhesives & Removers Wig Accessories:

Without a doubt, the number one question when it comes to lace wigs and wig accessories is “What’s the best adhesive?” And of course, like with most everything in life, it’s just not that simple!

There are many different kinds of bonding tapes and adhesives on the market that are made especially for use with lace wigs. The adhesive that is best for you will depend on your own personal preferences. Things to consider are your level of comfort with the product… your lifestyle… your body’s chemistry… skin sensitivity, etc.

Just as people are different… people will have different results using the very same products! For example: One person may have oily skin, while another will have very dry skin. So, what is best adhesive wig accessories for you may to be very different than what’s best for another person.

All lace wig double sided tapes, or liquid adhesives are made specifically for human skin. So you don’t have to worry about any damage to your skin, or some ridiculous TV comedy like the wig being super glued to your head. That does not happen with lace wig accessories. Although, it is common sense to avoid getting it on any open cuts, or breaks, in your skin.

But your main concern is the efficiency of the product. How good does it hold? How long does it hold? And the answer to these questions can vary from person to person. So just like finding a good man…. you may have to go through a little trial and error process in finding the best adhesive and lace wig accessories for you.

Some adhesive are designed for extended wear, which is up to a 4 week hold. While others are only meant to last a few days to a week. The bonding adhesives vary in their consistency. Some are very gooey and some are more liquid in nature. They can vary in their color. Some go on white and dry clear, while some are clear to begin with. However, the objective with with mostly all of them to dry clear and unnoticeable. There are some products that dry to a natural skin tone to be camouflaged against your skin.

Tape adhesives wig accessories are easy to use and provide for any easy clean up. The tape is sticky on both sides- one side is attached to your unit and the other side is attached to your skin. When applying with tapes, be sure to clean your hands and avoid touching the surface area where you will apply it. The oils in your glands can diminish your hold.

Remember there is the lace wig adhesive which secures the wig on you. And then there is the adhesive remover when you are ready to take the wig off. Our page for full lace wigs has an excellent video tutorial that shows the basics of adhesive remover. You basically apply the remover… let it sit for a couple of minutes… it breaks down and dissolves the adhesive… then the wig easily comes off.

It is pretty common for those who may be new to lace wigs to overlook the importance of buying removers and solvents for their adhesives. This is a step you do not want to skip! Removers are essential if you use any adhesives. The adhesives are designed to stick very well so you do need a good solvent to properly clean your skin and unit. Please note that Isopropyl Alcohol by itself is usually not a sufficient remover! It helps cut the stickiness for removal and cleans off excess oil on your skin during applications. The 99% Isopropyl Alcohol formula is the best for these uses. However, you will also need an appropriate solvent that will actually help break down and soften the glue so that it is easier to remove from your unit’s base. Adhesive manufacturers typically make solvents specified for their particular adhesives, but you can usually use solvents across adhesive brands. Many of these solvents are emollient based, softening up the glue for easier removal while being gentle on your skin.

If a particular wig accessories brand is not giving you the results you want… before you spend money on something else, you should ask yourself a couple of questions:

* Did you apply the adhesives exactly as the manufacturer’s instructions?

Adhesives differ in their properties and should be used as directed for their effectiveness. This is very important! For example, Some adhesives require the product to first get tacky, and sticky, before applying the wig. While some adhesive require you to put on the lace right away. So if you don’t use it as directed, you won’t get the expected results.

* Is your skin and unit clean and free of oils and residue?

This is very understandable. If the wig itself has residue and is not clean then the bond won’t be as good. And, of course, you should make sure the skin area where the adhesive will be is cleaned and dry! Oils break down the effectiveness of your bond.

After you try a couple of products, and maybe read a few reviews, it should not take you long or cost you a lot of money before you find the adhesive that is right for your individual needs and body chemistry.

Caps, Combs, Brushes & Pins Wig Accessories:

We know that many women who may have experienced a complete loss of hair due to cancer chemotherapy treatments, or alcopeica will choose the whole lace wig option. In this situation the entire wig is secured directly to the scalp with adhesives and there would be no need for this wig accessory.

However for the thousands of women wearing lace wigs intended as a beauty accessory to change up your style, look, & appearance, then the wig cap is usually a very common and necessary wig accessory. Because in order to get that glamorous and natural look you need to get your own hair underneath the wig as flat as possible. And nothing accomplishes this better than the nylon skull cap, aka stocking cap, also called wig cap. Depending on how much of your own hair that you have, you may want to braid, or put your hair into corn rolls first. Then place the wig cap over it. This is a wig accessory that acts as a barrier between your own hair and the wig base. Therefore it helps protect your hair and helps the wig to last longer.

This is a basic wig accessory that you can pretty much get anywhere. But since it also a wig accessory that’s frequently replaced you can find the best prices online for buying in bulk. Most wig caps are made from 100% polyester which is very soft and flexible. Black caps are the common standard but wig caps can be found in all kinds of colors if you are interested in matching your skin tone, or having the wig cap match the color of the wig. One size usually fits all. The wig cap gives you that snug fit, while helping the wig to sit better, while keeping your natural hair flat underneath, and allowing the scalp to breath. All at the same time! For this, and other wig accessories, a great selection can be found at: HairStopandShop.com

Shampoos & Conditioners Wig Accessories:

All wigs need to be shampooed regularly to keep them clean and in good condition. So, of course, a good wig shampoo is an absolute required wig accessory. Regardless if it is a lace front, full lace, or traditional non lace wig… or whether it is human hair or synthetic… a wig should be shampooed at least after every 10 to 14 wears.

If you work, or have to be in conditions which can be dirty, than the wig may have to be washed more often. If the wig is exposed to conditions such as cigarette smoke, paint or oil fumes for instance you may want to wash it immediately after exposure to remove the odor which clings to the it.

Taking care of your wig with the right products and the right wig accessories is crucial. This will determine how long it will last and continue to hold its luster and shine. If you have a synthetic wig, always buy products made specifically for synthetic hair. Using human hair products on a synthetic wig can damage the synthetic fiber. So it should be understandable that you only want to use a wig shampoo created for synthetic hair on a synthetic hair wig.

What not be so easily understandable is human hair wigs. Yes it is 100% real human hair but their also the wig base, the netting, mesh and lace material it is constructed with. Regular human shampoos can breakdown and degrade these parts of the wig causing them not to last as long. This means you have to pay more money to replace sooner. Plus even though it is real human hair, your higher end wigs are treated to help retain that shine and luster. Regular suave, head & shoulders, or whatever standard shampoo can strip this out causing the wig to look less glamorous with each wash.

So, if you got a wig… then you want to get shampoo made for wigs. Just like with clothing, that individual wig you purchase you purchased usually comes with it’s own particular care & washing instructions. For this, and other wig accessories, a great selection of wig shampoos and conditioners can be found at: HairStopandShop.com
